Menghidupkan Semangat Literasi: Tips Praktis Mendirikan TBM!

“Bang, apa yang harus saya siapkan untuk membuat Taman Bacaan Masyarakat (TBM)?” tanya seseorang melalui pesan WhatsApp.
Pertanyaan semacam ini sering kali diajukan, baik melalui pesan singkat maupun dalam pertemuan langsung. Sebenarnya, saya agak bingung harus memulai jawabannya dari mana. Namun, setelah beberapa kali mendapat pertanyaan serupa, akhirnya saya menemukan jawaban yang cukup memadai untuk para penanya.
Pertama-tama, penting untuk menjelaskan secara singkat apa itu TBM, rumah baca, teras baca, atau apapun sebutannya, dan apa bedanya dengan perpustakaan.
TBM, rumah baca, teras baca, atau apapun namanya, memiliki perbedaan mendasar dengan perpustakaan, baik dari segi legalitas maupun pengelolaannya. Sebuah komunitas baca biasanya dimulai dari keresahan yang hadir di masyarakat tanpa memikirkan apakah komunitas tersebut terdaftar di pemerintah daerah atau dinas terkait seperti Dinas Arsip dan Perpustakaan. Kepemilikan dari sebuah komunitas baca biasanya bersifat mandiri. Ada juga yang hadir sebagai turunan dari komunitas sebelumnya, seperti pondok tahfiz yang kemudian membuka TBM. Sedangkan perpustakaan biasanya dimiliki oleh institusi pemerintah atau swasta yang pengelolaannya mengikuti SOP perpustakaan, baik dari sisi jumlah koleksi, pengklasifikasian, sirkulasi, dan program-program yang dilakukan.
Secara sederhana, jika seseorang ingin memulai mengelola komunitas baca tidak perlu perencanaan yang rumit. Cukup menyediakan buku-buku yang terpajang di rak buku. Raknya tidak perlu bagus, bisa saja dari kotak buah yang disusun. Kemudian, mulailah memanggil tetangga untuk dapat mengakses buku-buku yang kita miliki. Sesederhana itu, yang penting adalah konsistensi.
Kedua, penting untuk membahas bagaimana pengelolaan komunitas baca tersebut. Tentunya, banyak biaya yang harus dikeluarkan. Mengenai biaya, ini memang topik yang sangat sensitif. Komunitas baca seperti TBM, rumah baca, teras baca, dan sebutan lainnya, selain mengorbankan waktu, juga membutuhkan pengorbanan materi dari pengelolanya. Pertanyaannya, dari mana kita mendapatkan biaya tersebut?
Mendirikan TBM atau rumah baca adalah sebuah gerakan sosial yang tidak akan memberikan keuntungan materi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengorbanan dari pendirinya untuk mengeluarkan biaya dalam menjalankannya. Pada awalnya, mungkin kita harus mengeluarkan biaya sendiri. Namun, lama-kelamaan, ada kemungkinan kita akan didatangi oleh orang-orang yang peduli dengan gerakan yang kita lakukan, baik dari pihak pemerintah maupun swasta. Mereka dapat membantu meringankan beban biaya dalam setiap kegiatan yang kita lakukan.
Yang perlu dicatat, mendirikan TBM atau rumah baca merupakan sebuah pengabdian. Walaupun dalam prosesnya kita akan dihadapkan pada banyak masalah, terutama dana, jangan sampai kita menodai niat tulus yang kita tanamkan di awal dengan praktik-praktik culas yang memanfaatkan komunitas baca yang kita kelola.
